From Aisle to After: Everything You Need to Know About Your Wedding Veil

From Aisle to After: Everything You Need to Know About Your Wedding Veil

Wedding veil is more than just a beautiful accessory — it’s a timeless symbol that adds an air of romance, grace, and magic to your bridal look. From the moment it’s placed in your hair to the moment you walked down the aisle, your veil tells part of your love story. As a wedding veil designer, brides often ask me how to keep a veil crease-free, store it safely, and look after it both before and after the wedding. In this guide, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know — from styling it right to placing it perfectly to ensure your veil looks flawless from the first photo to the last dance and caring for it for the big day and after — so your veil is as unforgettable as the moment you say “I do.”

  • Loving the veil you’ve chosen
You’ve already found your veil — the one that made your heart skip a beat, whether you bought it from me or another designer or online - Now it’s about keeping it just as perfect as the day it arrived. First things first, do not leave it in the box still folded! I would recommend unfolding and draping your wedding veil as soon as you receive it. This will help ease out the creases and will make removing wrinkles faster during your wedding day.

Here's a short video to help you with unfolding, draping and storing.

  •  Bring your wedding veil to final dress trial
If you've ordered your veil well in advance, you will receive it on time for your trials, depending on where you order from. Your final dress fitting and hair trial are the perfect moments to see your entire bridal look come together — veil included. Bringing your veil along allows you practice moving, turning, and walking with it, you'll get to see how well it frames your dress, or if you ordered a short veil.

Once your trial is done, folding it back is a task and you might need two people. Fold it gently — think of folding a bedsheet: Matching the edges, smooth, flat layers, never bunched up or rolled. This keeps creases minimal and prevents damage to the delicate tulle. Once folded, hang it on your hanger and in your garment bag. That way, when you arrive and leave your appointments, your veil will be intact and somewhat crease free.

  •  Bring your wedding veil to your hair trial or trying it on at home

Whether you have booked a hair trial or not, styling and positioning your veil is crucial. You can take your veil with you at the hair stylist or try and play around with placement of the veil at home. Veils work beautifully with all hairstyles updos, open hair, half updo or braids. Depending on the veil style, and the bridal look you're aiming at achieving, you can decide on the placement of the veil.

A veil looks and drapes beautifully when worn half an inch above the crown of the head.

The way your veil drapes depends on where you place it. Here are a few examples.

Wearing a blusher veil with gathers at the mid-section of your head softly frames your face, adding a touch of volume. It gives more volume when worn over a bridal bun at the crown.
